Artnewspress: Jamie Alexander posted a photo before her flight to Sydney to begin filming on Thor: Love and Thunder, in which she’ll play Sif for the first time since 2015.
After a long absence from the Thor franchise, Jaimie Alexander is on her way to Sydney, Australia to begin filming as Lady Sif on Thor: Love and Thunder.
“Off to the land down under,” Alexander posted on her Instagram page. The photo, which showed her dressed warmly and wearing a mask for the flight, also featured a pair of swords emoji, similar to Sif’s choice of Asgardian weapon.
Alexander debuted as Sif in 2011’s Thor, with her character depicted as a powerful warrior and childhood friend of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who harbors romantic feelings prior to his meeting Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Following his banishment to Midgard/Earth, Sif and the Warriors Three (i.e. Fandral, Volstagg and Hogun) covertly visited Earth to get Thor’s help in defeating Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who sent the Destroyer armor to kill them in retaliation.
In addition to reprising her role for the film’s 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World, Alexander played Sif for two episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with her last canonical Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance being in the 2015 Season 2 episode “Who You Really Are”.
Though her fate post-Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was previously left unresolved, Alexander’s return for Thor: Love and Thunder indicates that Sif survived Hela’s attack on Asgard in Thor: Ragnorak, which resulted in the deaths of the Warriors Three. In addition to Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, Love and Thunder will see the return of Portman as Jane Foster for the first time since The Dark World, after Ragnorak established that she and Thor had previously broken up.
The film will adapt the 2015-2018 Mighty Thor comic series, in which Foster became a version of Thor after the God of Thunder – then calling himself Odinson – was mysteriously rendered unworthy of lifting Mjölnir.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. The film arrives in theaters May 6, 2022.
