Disney’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Reboot Ready To Set Sail Again with The Creator of CHERNOBYL

ARTNEWSPRESS: Disney Studios hasn’t given up on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. They obviously still feel there is life in the franchise and they are moving forward with the previously announced reboot.

The project was originally being developed by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick but they ended up dropping out of the project. Disney has now brought in the creator of HBO’s Chernobyl, Craig Mazin, to craft a story for the new Pirates movie with Ted Elliott, who co-wrote the first four films in the franchise.

While I loved Chernobyl and think they could do some fun and interesting things with the franchise, I wish that he was working on an original pirate movie that isn’t connected to this Disney franchise. While I think the studio should put an end to this franchise, there’s still a huge audience out there that Disney is targeting that will want to see it.

It was previously rumored that Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow would be replaced by a female pirate named Redd. This female pirate is actually the latest addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Disney theme parks. Redd can be seen in the auction scene of the ride. There’s no word on if this character is someone that the new creative team is going to build the story around.

Jerry Bruckheimer is expected to return to produce. I’m up for seeing some new pirate movies in Hollywood! I’d just rather see some original story concepts that aren’t connected to the Disney ride.

What do you all think about Disney moving forward with their reboot of Pirates of the Caribbean? Does the addition of the creator of Chernobyl perk your interest? Do you think they will deliver a good movie?
