New Onward trailer reveals more about Pixar’s upcoming epic than ever before

ARTNEWSPRESS: Pixar has released the next big trailer for their upcoming fantasy epic, ONWARD. In the film, a teenage elf named Ian (Tom Holland) is gifted a magical staff for his sixteenth birthday that, when wielded, is capable of summoning his deceased father back from the afterlife. Problems arise when the spell gets interrupted and only brings back the parental figure’s lower half. And so, with the aid of his older brother Barley, Ian sets out on a quest to complete the spell within 24 hours before the enchantment wears off.

Oh boy. Is it just me or does this sound as if Pixar is setting us all up for another tearjerker? I can just imagine Ian and Barley’s quest coming down to the wire, granting them but a few fleeting moments with their father’s completed form before he passes away for good. Oh, and during that precious time, the father will tell his boys how proud he is of both of them for being so brave whilst out on their adventure. Mark my words, and we’ll check back once the film is released.

While the first trailer for ONWARD introduced us to the film’s brotherly duo, this new trailer shows us much more of the world they’re set to explore during their quest. We also meet some of the local law enforcement, as well as a mythical manticore, who as it turns out, has failed to warn Ian and Barley about a deadly curse that comes part and parcel with their father’s powerful spell. Silly manticore!

Here’s the official synopsis for Pixar’s ONWARD:

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers (voices of Chris Pratt and Tom Holland) who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there.

In addition to the new trailer, Pixar also released a batch of new character posters for the film. You can check out each of the new prints below, and be sure to click on them if you’d like to purchase a printed copy of your very own.

Pixar’s ONWARD, written and directed by Dan Scanlon, and starring Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer, will arrive in theaters on March 6, 2020.
