Snake Eyes: Henry Golding to star as the ninja commando in G.I. Joe spinoff

ARTNEWSPRESS: Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians, Last Christmas, The Gentlemen) is in talks to star in the G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. From Paramount and Skydance, the movie will mark Golding’s first starring role in a studio movie and franchise.

Snake Eyes is the ninja commando known for his deadly ability with a sword and trench knives. However, he is also a highly skilled martial artist who can be just as dangerous unarmed. Snake-Eyes was living in solitude in the High Sierras when he was recruited to join G.I. Joe. His real name and backstory have long been sources of mystery. As a result of being caught in a helicopter explosion, he is heavily scarred and mute. To hide his face, he usually appears in a black balaclava and matching bodysuit.

The spinoff will be directed by Robert Schwentke (REDR.I.P.D.) from a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulous (Bright 2The Huntsman: Winter’s War), who is currently working on the script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner will produce.

Snake Eyes is scheduled to debut in theaters on October 16, 2020.
