Cannes the Festival for old and new faces

Artnewspress: Countdowns have always taken place to start Cannes Film Festival. The Cannes Film Festival is a familiar event to all filmmakers, no matter whether it is read by Film World Cup critics , filmmakers or the biggest cinematographers, in a nutshell, it delivers the world’s best cinematography on its colorful tablecloth and after 12-day feast everybody goes back relieved-mindedly to their country from waterfront Cannes city.

Film Festival Although it is considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, along with two other Berlin and Venice festivals, it has the double glamor and credibility of other European Film and it’s a Showcase for the latest International productions of filmmakers worldwide.

Cannes, which was originally a social-tourist event, gradually developed so much that it now attracts the most media coverage. Since the year 1939, which was formed, it has pursued a different path, and its objective has been to “promote and contribute to the growth of artistic cinema” and to increase its artistic value. Yet at least in last decade with new prospective to Hollywood stars, it can even be mentioned that the movies of this pole would be able to compete with Oscars. If Oscar is a grand celebration of commercial cinema and the latest fashion of star bags and shoes, “Cannes” can also be the red-carpet nesting center for small and large cinematic Colonies, which perhaps fall together only once a year will to consult in an intimate atmosphere.

In fact, Cinema owes a huge deal to the Cannes Film Festival because with the sort of small films by anonymous directors, alongside the large films by anonymous directors, it is a good launching pad for many “ignored” and “not being seen” in the filmmaking world.

When not-so-famous filmmaker Cristian Mungiu won last year’s Palme d’Or with “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days“, all eyes were on Romanian cinema and the new generation of filmmakers in the country after the collapse of Communism was not the sole concern of politics, and when the Cannes Film Festival first lends its gold to a documentary by an American filmmaker, Michael Moore, the international community finds that not only is Hollywood’s commercial cinema entertaining, but also it can be political and informative.

The film market, on the other hand, is a meeting point for American and European cinemas, where filmmakers lobby for investors and participate in many of the celebrations and banquets that is held by large companies.
Many filmmakers believe that the Cannes Film Festival, especially its film market segment, is promotional oxygen, and that those who are the true protagonists of the cinema are looking for new and leaner talents that may even come from very small countries like Lithuania to catch their prey.

Not only Many of these celebrations are held in honor of familiar faces in the world of cinema, but also they’re for communication, collaboration, and acquaintances that may one day led to production of a good cinematic effect.

However, the Cannes Festival has come under criticism just like any other festival: for its association with the business sector (the Cannes market is referred to as the business sector and the whole event is considered as Commemoration of artistic Cinema) over the years. The latter has faced some kind of character duality, and sometimes the boundary between art and commercial cinema has become so blurred that it has confused audience.

Too much attention to the stars that has been presented on the red carpet, in other words “star fascination”, leads the viewers to neglect their acting abilities and threatens to be judged by criteria such as the reputation of a director or actor each year. Sometimes critics open up to praise for a film that, a few months later, is considered worthless in a small cinema hall. It can also be seen that sometimes broadcasters compete to buy a film and after being on screen, these movies named as the unluckiest in terms of sales. Nevertheless, Cannes as the world’s most important and most anticipated festival of cinema continues to be a great cinema for many, with an unforgettable twelve days of thousands of eyes experiencing an anthology of the world’s best cinema in the past year and even acquaintance through the history of cinema.
