The 2021 Cannes Film Festival is officially underway in France, and with it comes the first round of red carpet photos. The 74th edition of the legendary festival kicked off with an official photocall for the 2021 competition jury. Spike Lee is serving as the president of the jury this year. The “BlacKkKlansman” Oscar winner is accompanied on the jury by director Mati Diop, singer-songwriter Mylène Farmer, actress-director Maggie Gyllenhaal, writer-director Jessica Hausner, actress-director Mélanie Laurent, writer-director Kleber Mendonça Filho, actor Tahar Rahim, and actor Song Kang-ho. The Jury will unveil its list of winners Saturday, July 17 during the Cannes Closing Ceremony.

Jodie Foster was also at the center of a day one photocall as the recipient of this year’s Honorary Palme d’Or. Foster first attended Cannes at 13 years old with Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver,” which won the Palme d’Or. Foster’s 2016 directorial effort “Money Monster,” starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, world premiered at Cannes out of competition.

The final day one photocall was for “Annette,” the Leos Carax-directed musical that is opening the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Carax is at Cannes with his stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, plus the art pop duo Sparks, who wrote the music and came up with the story for the film.

Later on in the festival, premieres for films including “Stillwater,” “The French Dispatch,” “Bergman Island,” and more rolled out the red carpet for plenty of stars to show up in support of their films. Even without a press conference held for “The French Dispatch,” director Wes Anderson still brought his top actors to France for the splashy (and long-awaited) premiere of his latest movie.
