Marvel’s Future Reveals the Shock Inheritor of a Major MCU Weapon

Artnewspress: The future of the Marvel Comics Universe finds Kree Accuser Ronan’s infamous weapon of destruction in the hands of the rival Skrull Empire.

One of the most powerful weapons an MCU villain has wielded will end up in the hands of a surprising warrior during one potential future timeline of the Marvel Comics Universe. Far into the distant future, the remnants of the Uncanny X-Men as well as other denizens of the mutant community are at a crossroads with Marvel Comics’ foremost alien organizations, the Skrulls and Kree who find themselves united against their common foe.

An integral part of Marvel’s ongoing Sins of Sinister event series, writer Kieron Gillen and artist Andrea Di Vito’s Immoral X-Men #2 catapults the events of the X-Men mythos 100 years into a cataclysmic alternate future. Due to the machinations of villainous geneticist Mr. Sinister, the state of Marvel’s cosmic terrain is in complete disarray, with former rivals the Kree and the Skrulls now acting as a unified faction of aliens. Mutant commander and corrupted clone Hope Summers helps to lead a coup against the remaining resistance scattered throughout the cosmos.

A Hopeful Future Lies Ahead for The Skrulls and Kree

A resistance fighter who remains ever valiant in the fight is Skrull warrior Kl’rt aka the Super Skrull, infamous for his acquisition of the Fantastic Four’s super-powered abilities. Prior to this conflict Kl’rt created a reputation for himself as a respected soldier and father. Following his conflict with the Fantastic Four, this version of Kl’rt has amassed two extra limbs and found himself in possession of the Kree Empire’s Universal Weapon. The Universal Weapon is a powerful Kree artifact often given to Kree Accusers to enforce the law. Perhaps the most renowned of these Kree Accusers is Ronan the Accuser, another frequent foe of the Fantastic Four and their allies the Avengers. In order to match his multiple arms, Kl’rt has four of the Universal Weapons in Immoral X-Men to fend off his oncoming wave of Mr. Sinister’s clone armada.

From the early days of Marvel’s publication history, the Skrulls and Kree have been entrenched in a never-ending war that has not shown any signs of slowing down until very recently. The war has drawn the attention of countless parties, including the costumed superheroes of Earth. It’s only been recent that the rivalry prohibiting the two alien races from reaching any form of peace treaty or ceasefire has begun to alleviate, allowing each to begin reaching for a hopeful future. Marvel’s Empyre event from 2020 saw the former Young Avenger and Kree-Skrull hybrid Teddy Altmanaka Hulkling finally ascend to the throne of the up-and-coming Kree/Skrull alliance. Taking the royal designation of Emperor Dorrek VIII, Hulkling has created a hierarchy in which the Skrulls and Kree can potentially live in peace and prosperity.

The future glimpsed in Sins of Sinister may not be exactly set in stone, but it does offer an interesting parallel to the main 616 Marvel Universe. It says a lot about how the machinations of Sinister have flipped the Marvel Comics Universe on its head, where the signature weapon of the Kree Empire is wielded by one of their sworn enemies to fight against a common foe.
