Taika Waititi’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie Reportedly Starts Filming Early 2023

Artnewspress :

Lucasfilm confirmed Waititi’s project back in 2020.

Lucasfilm is reportedly looking to begin principal photography on Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film early next year.

After the release of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, then Disney CEO Bob Iger teased that the films would go on a hiatus. Lucasfilm has since shifted their focus to Disney Plus and are delivering several Star Wars shows, while the film side has remained a mystery. In May, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy shared that Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film would be next after Rogue Squadron’s delay. Waititi is co-writing the upcoming film with Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

Back to the Big Screen

During the press tour for Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi opened up some more about his Star Wars film, revealing that he is still working on the story and that it will involve new characters. Based on Waititi’s comments, it was thought that the film was still far off, but The Hollywood Reporter has shared that it might begin filming early next year. A Star Wars film is still slated for December 22, 2023, but it doesn’t seem like Waititi’s project would make that release date at this point.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
