This Week in Movie News: Emily Blunt Joins Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie, ‘Haunted Mansion’ Adds Danny DeVito and More

Artnewspress :

Need a quick recap of the past week in movie news? Here are the highlights:

Emily Blunt to play Kitty Oppenheimer: After co-starring together in this year’s sci-fi horror hit A Quiet Place Part II, Emily Blunt will reunite with Cillian Murphy for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. According to Deadline, the actress is in talks to play Kitty Oppenheimer, wife of “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer, in the biopic. Kitty also contributed to the Manhattan Project as a biologist researching the effects of radiation on the human body. Murphy has the lead role in the movie, which Nolan is basing on the nonfiction book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

The Osbournes: the movie: Speaking of biopics, another in the works right now concerns a still-living husband and wife — known for dropping a different sort of “bomb.” Variety reports that the profanely entertaining heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon Osbourne will get the biographical drama treatment from Sony Pictures. This will be a prestigious pictures, too, as it’s being scripted by Oscar-nominated Billy Elliot and Rocketman writer Lee Hall. Sharon Osbourne and kids Jack and Aimée will also produce the movie, which will have a romantic focus and feature music by Ozzy’s solo career and Black Sabbath days.

Danny DeVito enters Haunted Mansion: Speaking of people known for crass characterizations, Twins and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Danny DeVito has been cast in a Disney movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is joining Haunted Mansion, the studio’s latest adaptation of the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, in the role of a “smug professor.” DeVito has appeared in a number of Disney movies before this, including the live-action reimagining of Dumbo. He also voiced a character in the animated feature Hercules. Other actors in this project include Owen Wilson and Tiffany Haddish.

Russell Crowe goes for a Beer Run: In addition to DeVito, another star of L.A. Confidential is in the news this week. Variety reports that Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe (Gladiator) will star in the next movie from Green Book helmer Peter Farrelly. Like that last effort, this one will also be based on real events, adapting the book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A True Story of Friendship Stronger Than War. The Greatest Showman star Zac Efron will also star in the drama, which follows a young man in the late 1960s tracking down his childhood friends who are fighting in the Vietnam War — and sharing some beers with them.

LEE welcomes Marion Cotillard and Jude Law: One more biographical drama in the news this week is LEE, the movie about Vogue model turned war photographer Lee Miller. According to Deadline, in addition to Kate Winslet (Titanic) starring in the titular role, the 1940s-set movie will feature Marion Cotillard (Allied) as a French Vogue fashion director turned Nazi prisoner, Andrea Riseborough (Possessor) as British Vogue editor Audrey Withers, Jude Law (Captain Marvel), as Miller’s true love, the artist and poet Roland Penrose, and recent Emmy winner Josh O’Connor (The Crown) as Miller’s son.
