ARTNEWSPRESS: Still currently sitting in the room at the New York Film Critics Online annual awards, Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” was the favorite with the group winning awards for Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay, which Joon-ho shared with co-writer Han Jin Won.
The distributor of “Parasite,” NEON was the overall studio winner nabbing five awards in total.
Big surprises came in Debut Director where Lila Avilés of “The Chambermaid” bested Olivia Wilde of “Booksmart.” Joaquin Phoenix also won his first critics prize of the season for his work in Todd Phillips’ box office hit, “Joker.”
