Jeffrey Pierce, the original actor for Tommy in The Last of Us video game, recently voiced his support for the upcoming HBO adaptation. The 10-episode show is based on the popular award-winning video game of the same name, a Playstation exclusive that placed the player in the role of Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor who must trek across a zombie-infected country to deliver a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to a militant revolutionary group called the Fireflies. Although Joel initially wants no part in the mission, he soon realizes its importance when it’s revealed that Ellie may be the key to creating a cure that could save the entire world.

During filming over the summer, photos and videos of The Last of Us sets around Canada have revealed that the upcoming series appears relatively faithful to the original video game. Although specific locations have been changed and Sam (Keivonn Woodard) is now deaf, the show’s overall aesthetic has been praised for its accuracy, from the look of the characters such as the Hunters to the construction of specific locations such as the infamous Saint Mary’s Hospital. Even the brief snippet from HBO Max’s latest promo included lines of dialogue taken straight from the video game. Recent praise from Pierce may explain why the series has shown immense deference to the original game.

Pierce, a voice and performance actor for The Last of Us, recently took to social media to voice his support for the upcoming HBO television series. The actor reassured fans that the crew primarily consisted of fans of the show to ensure that the adaptation was faithful to the original game. Pierce praised their hard work and stated that fans would not “be disappointed.” Check out Pierce’s Twitter post below.

Support from Pierce is high praise as the actor has the credentials to back it up. He has had a role in both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II video games, as well as a part in the upcoming series as a new character named Perry. His knowledge of the game is likely deep as he has been a part of the franchise for 10 years.

Using fans of the original video game to create the series makes sense as there will be a desire among the filmmakers to create the best possible representation of what made The Last of Us one of the most awarded video games in history. The recent footage only backs up Pierce’s claim, showcasing Joel with his daughter Sarah (Nico Parker) and Nick Offerman’s portrayal as Bill that appears ripped directly from the game. With The Last of Us likely to be released in 2023, audiences will have to wait and see if the series remains genuinely faithful to the original game.
